AIMMAP,
Associaçao dos Industriais Metalúrgicos, Metalomecânicos
e Afins de Portugal, is a private non-profit organisation, made-up of
companies in the metal manufacturing, mechanical engineering and similar
industries operating in Portugal, specially in the North Region and part
of the Centre Region.
Its
main aim is to co-ordinate the policies for the development of the metal-working
sector, as well as to care and to promote the interest of the affiliated
companies, namely together with Government (specially Ministries of Economy,
Finance, Environment, Social Security and Employment). AIMMAP covers 11
sub-sectors, from basic metal manufacturing, metal products manufacturing
to machinery and equipment manufacturing, furniture and metal recycling.
The
environmental situation of the sector is of special concern. AIMMAP is
negotiating with the Government a specific agreement to allow its affiliates
to adapt to the environmental legislation until the end of the century
according to a working plan under discussion.
Taking
into account the objectives of the ENVIREDOX project, AIMMAP considers
this project of crucial importance for the diffusion of reduction/prevention
technologies and minimisation techniques, instead of the traditional end-pipe
treatments, leading the companies of the sector to the adoption of technical/technological
solutions already in agreement with the principles and new exigencies
of the Directive IPPC.
The
role of AIMMAP in the ENVIREDOX project is to gather the metalworking
companies of the North region around the objectives of the project and
to sensitise them to the new exigencies contemplated in the Directive.
Therefore AIMMAP is the main responsible to promote and organise diffusion
actions concerning sensitisation and project achievements.
